There may be a time when you need to add a .htaccess file to your WordPress website. This could becuase you have renamed or deleted the old file to fix and error such as the 500 Internal Server Error or because there was not .htaccess file on installation of your WordPress website.

Luckily this is very easy to add and can be done in just a few clicks from your WordPress admin area. Simply follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin area.
  2. Find Settings from the left hand menu and select Permalinks.
  3. From here you simply need to click Save.

You can change the permalinks settings if you need to but in order to create the .htaccess file this is not necessary.

After saving the permalinks you will be able to view the file in File Manager on cPanel or FTP under your website folder or directory.
